Back Story

Aless grew up in Los Angeles with his parents and older half sister, *Tia.  He was a quiet, shy child. Most of the time he felt completely overshadowed by Tia. He loved his books and later, his computer. He treasured the times he spent with his mother. She had a way of bringing out his silly side. He led a very normal life until his mother died in a car accident. His devastated father’s way of coping with his loss was to focus primarily on his law practice.  Aless was sent to  boarding school in England. 

One day, in the school library, Aless became so absorbed in a book that he didn't realize the library had closed. The librarian snuck up on him, stroked his hair and told him what a pretty boy he was. Aless ran. The librarian, a very tall man, cornered him. Lightning sprung from Aless' fingers and blew the librarian across the room. No one was more surprised than Aless - who ran out of there as fast as he could. Aless then managed to get himself sent back to the states. Rather than return to LA, Aless moved into the home of  the Lady with the Dog where his older, half 

brother, Racolo lived  The boys were happy to be reunited. Racolo was busy with his son, Lithium, and finishing up his education.  Aless was left to his own devices. He liked to  browse thrift stores for items that didn't work (radios, cameras, etc.) which he'd buy and repair. In the process, he discovered a talent for photography. Aless liked his new home, but he hated school. He wouldn't admit it to anyone but he was the victim of a bully. Daprima sensed something was wrong and tried to help him.  Her empathic skills sought out Aless and before he knew it, lightning flew from his fingertips zapping her. She recovered - but Aless’ secret was out. Racolo, being gifted with magic himself,  was very understanding, as was Daprima.  Aless was then enrolled in Magick School where he could learn to use and control his gift. 

Family

Racolo - Aless looks up to Racolo, but he also recognizes his shortcomings. Magic brought them closer together. 

Esmodonti - Aless has always adored  Es.  He thinks she's a great mom for Lithium and thinks she’s green for Racolo. 

*Qualina - Qualina is Racolo and Aless’ grandmother.  The brothers accidentally magically brought her forward in time. (In their timeline, she died a powerful sorceress, in her 80s.) The boys were searching for one of her books on vampires. Instead of finding the book, they found her - but not the powerful Grandmother they knew, instead she was a younger Qualina, who had recently discovered her talent for magic.  She decided to stay with them for a while. Aless was thrilled to have her with him. He found a kindred spirit in her.

Qualina has since returned to her own time. However,

 the two have plans to see each other again,  through magic. While living in her grandson’s time with them, she learned that her great-grandson's mother is a vampire. This is what motivates her research on vampires and leads to the books she writes about them. 

Jesse

When Jesse first arrived in the home of the Lady with the Dog, he was dating Aless’ half sister, Tia. Although that relationship didn’t last long and Tia left  - Jesse took a liking to Aless. He saw him as the nerdy little brother he never had. 

* Tia and Qualina are no longer living in the home of the Lady with the Dog.
